A Research On The Time-lag Of Performance Appraisal Of Knowledge Worker-From Nobel Prize's Perspective

With the coming of Knowledge Economy, the knowledge workers are playing an increasing role in the development of companies as well as the whole society. However, there is also a challenge on how to appraise the performance of knowledge worker. On one side, the knowledge worker has its own special character and working context, so the knowledge workers'performance character is quite different with the other workers; on the other side, the existing performance appraisal method and appraisal period are not appropriate to the knowledge workers'performance character. Hence, how to appraise the performance of knowledge worker appropriately, effectively and impersonality is really a big question in the field of Human Resource Management. This paper is the research on one of the knowledge workers'performance character Time-lag.Firstly, as the background, this paper analyzes the existing problems and their disadvantages of the performance appraisal of college teachers. And then, this paper expounds the theory gist from two different perspectives: knowledge management and science sociology. The theory of knowledge management tells us that the process of knowledge management contains four procedures: knowledge store, knowledge communication, knowledge application and knowledge create. Each of them has the time-lag. Meanwhile, this paper also analyzes the time-lag from other three perspectives in science sociology: the transform form front edge to core knowledge, the socialization of science and pearl appraisal.After that, this paper collects and analyzes all the data of the Nobel laureates to compare the time-lag between their ages when they published their breakthrough scientific production and their ages when they got the Nobel Prize. This paper has mainly four conclusions: 1.There is indeed a evident time-lag of Nobel Prize; 2. The time-lag of Nobel Prize for Physics, Chemistry and Medicion is shorter than the time-lag of Nobel Prize for Economy; 3. The time-lag of Nobel Prize has an longer tendency; 4. The own character of the scientific production can affect the time-lag of Nobel Prize. On the whole, the theory research has a longer time-lag than the application research.Finally, this paper puts forwards some suggestions on the performance appraisal method and appraisal period on the college teacher.
