With the development of the knowledge-based economy, knowledge-workers are increasingly at the competitive advantage of holding important roles in the organizations. To attract and retain knowledge workers and maximize their ability is a common challenge to the current new economic condition.An open and quantifiable incentive mechanism could internally enhance the trust and passion of knowledge workers towards the organization, as well as attracting more such workers externally. Innovative knowledge-workers are more independent and less reliance, thus they form the main body of staff wastage in an organization. The effectiveness of the incentive mechanism of an organization thus determines the retention and attraction of knowledge-workers.With the large numbers of petrochemical projects being launched, market for Automation is in good prospect for the next ten years. Employees from the automation industry belong to the category of skilled and knowledgeable staff, and are generally younger. With many options available in the market, they change jobs frequently. Therefore, it is a key factor for organization to try to stabilize the movements of employees using the intensive mechanism of automation industry, in order to successfully implement the automation projects. AM (Singapore) Corporation is one of the leaders in automation industry, which has around 16,000 employees in the region. It has been rated as one of the Most Admired Companies by"Fortune"magazine in past four years, and ranked second in Electronic category. By studying the staff welfare and corporate culture of AM (Singapore), gives us a reference to establish and implement an effective incentive mechanism for Chinese Automation Industry.This thesis first studied the current business operation and employee structure of AM (Singapore), and their detailed motivation practice, which emphasizes staff welfare, training and career development, motivation via example and corporate culture. Next, through the analysis of the effectiveness of its motivation practice, we summarized the areas which we should learn from AM (Singapore), as our reference to motivate knowledge works.
