Since a long time, it is an arid, semi-arid region in northwest of China. The shortage of water there is the greatest problem in agriculture. In recent years, the Western Development Drive (WDD) has been carried out, however, the problem of lack of water has still not been solved fundamentally. In Chinese long history, in ancient times, how our ancestors in the north-west region to solve the problem? Maybe we can find some of our good ideas from their practice, which is the cause that I has chosen the irrigation and water conservancy development in areas of Sanlong in Ming and Qing Dynasties as a research object, trying to seek something helpful for today's WDD.This thesis is composed of three parts:The first part is introduction. The purpose and significance of the subject, the condition of irrigation and water conservancy development and the summary of existing studies on it in that area, the Ming and Qing Dynasties.The body contains three chapters. First, I made a summary of the water development situation in Ming and Qing Dynasties in the region, through the study of power and methods of development of irrigation and water conservancy. Then, it analyzed the management system and its features in the areas in Ming and Qing Dynasties water development. Third, it summed up the development achievements of the areas of Sanlong in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.According to the argumentations in the whole thesis, the last part put forward to three recommendations to deal with the lack of water in the areas.
