Research On The Performance Measurement Of China's Railway Transport Enterprises

China's railway transport enterprises are not only the main constituent of the national transportation economy, but also the medium for government's political service. Railway has already become our country's important infrastructure and played an irreplaceable role in the development of the economy and society since the founding of the nation. In recent years, the railway transport industry has developed rapidly, but still can't meet the transport demand of the economic and social development. Facing the increasingly fierce competition in the transport market, railway transport enterprises must find their flaw and the direction of improvement, strengthen the management, undertake the social responsibility, raise the efficiency of resource distribution and enhance market competitiveness.Based on the actual need, this paper does the research on the performance measurement of China's railway transport enterprises. By analyzing the efficiency and non-efficiency of the enterprises by the use of DEA and Inverted DEA from the view of enterprises and society, we evaluate the performance of China's 18 railway transport enterprises. The results show that there are differences among the 18 railway transport enterprises from the view of enterprises and society, and most enterprises have concerted action in their economic and social performance, such as Taiyuan railway bureau, Jinan railway bureau, Guangtie railway company etc, but there are some exceptions, such as Shanghai railway bureau, Wulumuqi railway bureau etc. According to the empirical analysis, we get the direction and some suggestions for railway transport enterprises' improvement which has certain economic and social significance.
