The Emprical Study On The Correlation Of Industrialization And Environment In Hunan

Along with the strategy of "the rising of central China" carried out in a deep-going way, Hunan has been promoting its industrialization on a full scale and getting a maintained relatively fast growth in economy. While, these achievements are build on the expensive cost of the environment and resources. As one of the main acid rain areas, Hunan is suffering from the severe environment contamination and the environment & resources bottleneck in its process of industrialization. Under such circumstance, it seems extremely strategic and urgent to give a thorough analysis on the correlation of industrialization and environment and seek the resolution of the contradiction between them.This thesis first defined some relevant underlying concepts, such as "industrialization" and "environment", and made a deep-analysis of the correlation between the two. This paper found industrialization and environment are integrated in the large-scale system of "economy-environment", the two interacts, constraining or helping each other forward. Then, the paper pointed out the major factors that impact on environment in the industrialization process, and penetrated into the mechanisms of each factor's environment-effect. Besides, paper contrasted the different environment effects between traditional road to industrialization and new approach to it. On the basis of general theoretical analysis of the interrelationship between industrialization and environment, the thesis gave an empirical study on the relationship between industrialization and environment in Hunan province. In this part, the paper not only set up two aggregative indictors, the industrial aggregative index (IAI) measuring the industrialization level, and the environment pollution index (EPI) measuring the environment quality, but also used the two indictors making a metrology inspection on the industrialization's environment effect in Hunan from 1996 to 2008. The empirical research shows Hunan has promoted its industrialization at a sustained and rapid speed since 1996, however, it still ranks at the early stage of industrialization in 2008.Hunan's level of industrialization still far behind the national average. During this period from 1996 to 2008, environmental quality and industrialization has a typical "inverted U-type" relationship.1996-2006, the environment pollution mounted up year by year, the environment quality deteriorated sharply.2007-2008, due to the government's positive attitude to the environment problem, pollution emission reduced and the tendency of environmental degradation has been cubed to a certain degree. Based on empirical research findings, the paper then put forward suggestions on how to eliminated the contradiction between industrialization and environment and achieve the "win-win" situation.In this research area where the thesis concentrated on, there are lots of relevant studies. Compared with the previous academic research, this thesis has three new breakthroughs:first, paper pointed out the major factors that impact on environment in the industrialization process, and penetrated into the mechanisms of each factor's environment-effect; second, contrasted the different environment effects between traditional road to industrialization and new approach to it; third, the environment aggregative indictors is build in a comparatively comprehensive and reasonable way.This thesis combines a certain degree of theoretical value and practical value:on one hand, this study may enrich the research in this field and provide empirical data for the further study of colleges and corresponding research institutions. on the other hand, the author hope this study can give some useful references on how to coordinate the relationship between industrialization and environment for Hunan and other provinces.
