With the rapid development of insurance industry in China, business entities in insurance market increase, and competition in the market is growing. The insurance companies are increasingly demanding to enhance its careful management and to improve service. They need an increase of profitability. Competition is essentially competition of talent, and is competition of management of human resource. While the performance appraisal mechanism plays an important role for improving quality and service level of all jobs.China Continent Property&Casualty Insurance Co. Ltd. is a new kind state-owned insurance company. In this company, responsibilities and goals of underwriting jobs are clear, and there are job appraisal methods, but the performance of the employees of underwriting position do not improve significantly and there are many problems in the current assessment program. We need to improve the assessment and encouragement mechanisms to enhance the efficiency and quality of the underwriting work.Based on performance appraisal theory of human resources management, in this thesis, present situation of Underwriting jobs performance management in CCIC Gansu Branch is assessed, and existing problems of the performance appraisal program are analyzed. Then, the causes of the problems are identified. As a result, for such problems, we design an improving performance appraisal program, and propose some protective countermeasures and suggestions. We wish it is useful for performance appraisal in CCIC Gansu Branch and others in insurance industry.
