The ecological suitability evaluation for tourism is an efficient method and manageable tool for handling the relationship between environment protection and tourism development. So far, the research on ecological suitability evaluation for tourism is still weak, and most of them adopt qualitative description and expert scoring which lead to the defect of subjectivity and uncertainty.Meanwhile,it is quite difficult to find an appropriate methodology to evaluate factors we chose, particularly in the regional tourism, thus, research objects and methods need to be perfected. This paper studied the ecological suitability evaluation for tourism both spatially and quantitatively by selecting different scale study area.By studying this,we set up a systematic method for ecological suitability evaluation for tourism to better balance the tourism development and ecology protection scientifically and manipulative.Based on the method of former evaluation, together with the related documents from Changsha city and Yuelu mountain scenic spot, this paper took Changsha city and Yuelu mountain scenic spot for example from macro and micro aspects respectively. It chose different scale factors, along with the consideration of the regional reality to set up a system for the ecological suitability evaluation for tourism. Meanwhile, owing to the uncertainty in the former evaluation, weights of factors used for evaluation are determined by FAHP (Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process). The ecological suitability of Changsha and Yuelu Mount tourism landuse is qualitatively and quantitatively evaluated with the support of GIS.These two regions with different scales adopted the same evaluation method, but the establishment of indicator system and the setup of GIS resolution revealed their differences. As a result, based on the ecological suitability evaluation, five zones of tourism land could be worked out, including:the highly suitable land, suitable land, basically suitable land, not suitable land, and highly unsuitable land. Most of the land in Changsha city was suitable for development, which covered an area of 7549.66 km2,while the same with Yuelu Mount scenic spot covered an area of 4.65 km2,occupying 83.54% of the total coverage.According to the result, this evaluation offers references to local authorities and the similar area for environmental protection, construction and management on tourism strategies to lay the foundation for the sustainable development of ecotourism.Compared with traditional evaluation method on qualitative description and pure numerical evaluation, this ecological suitability evaluation for tourism organically combined acquisition of land information, numerical calculation and spatial data to quantitatively analyze the tourism land in a simple, visual and quick way, with the support of GIS and the efficiency was drastically improved.Given the uncertainty, weights of factors used for evaluation are determined by FAHP (Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process) to solve the subjectivity and uncertainty.Eventually, the ecological suitability evaluation for tourism can be broke through both from spatial and quantitative aspects,in which attribute data can be expressed in a planar space to reveal the regional differences and corresponding strategies was put forward based on the evaluation results. The method, process and result provided scientific evaluation with an effective module.
