The thesis firstly systematically reorganizes the point of view on the development of rural tourism at home and abroad in theory and comparatively analyses the focus point and differences of the studies of rural tourism at home and abroad. Using the two theories, urban fringe development and tourism to the evolution of life cycle, based on detailed analysis of development of rural tourism planning and construction of the areas on the edge of China's western cities, it explicitly points out the existed problems in the planning and construction of rural tourism development of urban fringe areas in western China. It takes examples of the course of development of rural tourism in Chengdu with tourist life cycle theory and a detailed SWOT analysis.
