A Study On The Relationship Between Team Climate And Team Performance

In recent years, the practice of management shows that the organizational structure of modern enterprise is undergoing a series of changes. The original enterprise pyramid organizational structure has increasingly being broken, with a growing trend of a flat organizational structure, companies started to introduce the work team. The "team" as the core of the flat organization model, has been popular in'the West, and also has been gradually prevailed in Chinese enterprises. Compared with other industries, work team becomes more widely available in IT industry in our country. And Chinese IT corporations have increasingly urgent request for team management.At present, there is not unified understanding about team climate researches in domestic. Some scholars had already studied the team climate in some industries except IT industry. This is good chance for me to study the team climate in IT industry.Under this background, the study explored the composition factors of team climate and analyzed the relationship between team climate and team performance in IT industry. At last, the paper gave some suggestions for practice of team management according to conclusions of the study. As following,there are six parts in this paper.In the first part, the paper introduced background and proposed the goal and significance of research.In the second part, The paper researched the development process of the team climate and team performance, and commented he relationship between the team climate and team performance.In the third part, the paper proposed research model and the variable dimensions. According to the variable dimensions, this article established questionnaires. The fourth part is about the structure of team climate and team performance. On the basis of summing up theory, author designed questionnaire in this paper. The study selected 32 teams which are from different kinds of IT business in Chengdu, Guiyang, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Xi'an and other cities. There are 199 effective questionnaires which have been used to analyze by SPSS, from 276 questionnaires which were recycled.Through the factor analysis, the team climate is composed of five factors: 'Cohesive Force','Innovation Support and Communication','Target Recognition', 'Members Contacted','Performance-Oriented'. The team performance is composed of four factors:'Innovation and Satisfaction with the Team','Team Tasks','Growth of the Members','Interpersonal Growth of Team'. After a series of tests, the study has shown that the conclusions have good reliability and validity.In the fifth sixth part, based on data,the paper analysed relationship between team climate and team performance by regression analysis. And the study discussed impaction which is about team attributes and the team climate by significance analysis.Finally, after discussed the analyzed results, the study found out some conclusions. And on the basis of the conclusions, the study gave some measures which helpful for team to create a good team climate and to enhance team performance in the practice of team management.The relationship and correlation between team climate and team performance shows that:team climate has significantly impact on the team performance (67%) in IT industry; there is positive correlation between five dimensions of team climate and four dimensions of team performance; team climate has most significantly impact on'Innovation and Satisfaction with the Team'(58%), and has smallest impact on'Interpersonal Growth of Team'(30%);'Cohesive Force'which is the most active factor in the team climate dimensions has significantly impact on the four dimensions of team performance;'Innovation Support and Communication'has significant impact on the three dimensions of team performance, except'Growth of the Members';'Performance-oriented'which is the least active factor in the team climate only has significantly impact on 'Innovation and Satisfaction with the Team'. Further, analyzed significant difference analysis on the team attributes (Location, Size, Time, Nature of their business), the study found that:the team managers have stronger perception of the team climate than the team members; team climate of "5 and the following" is significantly more stronger than "11-15" and "over 20", there is no significant different in team climate when the size of the team beyond "6-10 persons"; changes drawing of team climate is a "V "shape which in" June-December" is at the lowest stage which called'Storming stage'of team-building; Corporate nature of the team has no significant compact on the team climate in the IT industry.
