Water resource is not only a basic natural resource for human beings' living and developing but also an important condition of sustainable utilization. Implementing sustainable use of water resource is based on the current use situation, unifying the economic and society development tendency in the future, through reasonable disposition of water resources, realizing the water resources supply and demand to be balanced, providing the safeguard for sustainable development of society. Along with the rapid progress of society and economy, the need of water resource in Shan Xi is more and more high, many areas had sunk into the predicament that water resource runs short. Under the excessive exploitation, ground water fall and ecological environment was deteriorated continuously. In order to make sustainable use of water resource to support the sustainable development of Shan Xi, this paper conducts the research on the sustainable use of water resource in Shan Xi.After expatiating correlative theories of water resource sustainable use, the paper evaluated the current use of water resource in Shan Xi based on the DPSIR framework, through five aspects of driving forces, pressure, state, impact and response analyzed primary existing problems in the process of water sustainable use. Selecting representative nineteen evaluation indexes from five types of driving forces, pressure, state, impact and response, then used data-reliability analysis approach to prove their reliability and stability as an evaluation system. Afterwards, an evaluation model on the level of water sustainable use was constructed through AHP and the improved entropy method. Then combined with EXCEL, the paper computing individual score of driving force, pressure, state, impact and response as well as a synthetical score of them according to the data from 1999 to 2004, made a quantitative compare and evaluation of water sustainable use level in Shan Xi. And finally some countermeasures for enhancing the sustainable use of limited water resource in Shan Xi were proposed based upon these quantitative and qualitative evaluation results.
