Aircraft battery intelligent charging and discharging system is a real-time monitoring unit, which is used not only for measuring batteries'voltage level during charging or discharging, but also controls battery discharging when necessary.Based on the principle of voltage measurement, aircraft Ni-Cd batteries'structure and its performance index, this thesis proposed a monitoring unit to meet application practices. And this monitoring unit design is mainly divided into the development of hardware circuit and the FPGA kernel control code programming.The design of hardware circuit of this monitoring unit is then divided into two parts. One is real-time sampling of Ni-Cd battery's voltage signal. The other is discharge control of residue energy in Ni-Cd battery. Due to the fast signal processing speed and high reliability of FPGA, the whole hardware design is achieved by FPGA kernel control coding. Also, the hardware design is further subdivided into analog and digital parts according to different types of signal.FPGA is responsible for signal sampling tasks, voltage data processing, Ni-Cd battery discharge control, and communication with computer. All these functions are implemented by programming kernel control code of FPGA using Verilog. Because of FPGA's reconfigurable capability, when there is a need to change the function of hardware, it is only required to reprogram the kernel control code. The bottom-up design is applied in this FPGA kernel control code programming. At the same time, Quartus II's visualized design mythology is employed throughout the programming procedure. As a result, the logical relationship between each control module is more intuitive, and also the modification of each functional module would be more convenient.Tests showed that measurement precision and accuracy of the monitoring unit in aircraft battery smart charging and discharging system can meet the requirements of practical applications.
