Situation in the intense competition in the internationality of higher education, discipline leaders who undertake the mission of the strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education and the strategy of reinvigorating China through human resource development, playing an important role on the disciplinary construction and personnel training. At present, the uneven structure of the number of and structure of discipline leaders in our country restricted the rapid development of education in colleges and universities in the global market competitiveness. How to attract, retain and develop academic leaders, especially those key positions, and how to motivate the material through a series of other means to maximize the development potential of academic leaders to strengthen the innovation team, and promote the development of disciplines become an important issue to the university. Therefore, this study used document analysis, qualitative analysis and case analysis, analysis of the present situation, problems and the causes of the succession planning of discipline leaders, to provide advices to stabilize the echelon of college discipline leaders encourage the continued development of core talent, and resolve personnel crisis.First, this study summarizes the succession management, discipline, discipline leaders and its development theory, focuses on their concepts and the application study from foreign scholars on the succession management in family enterprises, listed companies and corporate enterprises.Second, it summarizes and analyses the current study situation and its comments about the domestic experts and scholars on the quality of discipline leaders, team building, training mode, which from the domestic experts and scholars. Through it, this paper finds that with the implementation of the national personnel training policies, training college discipline leaders have made significant achievements, but there are still some problems, such as the small number of high-level talent, age structure is not balanced, lack of originality, irrational movement of persons, which restrict the subject construction and development of higher education.Third, based on summing up the occurrence and influencing factor of universities'discipline leaders successor, it constructs the cycle process of training discipline leaders successor, with the center of competency. Through expecting future demand for discipline leaders and identifying discipline leaders qualities of competence, ascertaining candidates, assessing candidates, building personal development goals, implementing personal capacity, etc., to record and feedback.Fourth, through deserving the problems of succession planning for college discipline leaders, to explore the reasons from the traditional personnel system and universities'managers, and finally providing the countermeasures about the succession plan of universities'discipline leaders in China to establish the consciousness of the discipline leaders succession planning, promote the personnel system reform, establish and complete the training system and build succession planning .
