Objective To investigate the clinical effect of inducing diuretics from chinese herbs combined with ESWL therapy on inpatients with renal calculus. Primarily evaluate the influence of inducing diuresis for treating stranguria on nephrolith. Methods The 80 eligible nephrolith patients in the 1st affiliated hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was collected for prospective study. The trial divided an overall enrollment into ESWL group (20 cases) and chinese herbs group (60 cases) at random. The contrast group was only treated with ESWL theraphy , while the chinese herbs group on basis of syndrome differenciation for treatment was given inducing diuretics with ESWL therapy. The primary trial endpoint was the clinical effect for 30 days. To record the clinical symptoms and the number of RBCs in urine after treatment and before. The conditions of cardiac, hepatic and renal function should be on record. Results The group of chinese herbs reducing RBCs in urine after ESWL had significantly superior to the contrast group (96.2%VS77.3%, P<0.05). Furthermore, the group of chinese herbs received significantly higher the effective rate than the contrast group(76.9% VS 63.6%, P<0.05) and the side—effect was significantly less in the group of chinese herbs compared with the contrast group (P<0.05).Conclusion The clinical effect of inducing diuretics from chinese herbs combined with ESWL therapy on inpatients with nephrolith is singnifcant and safety. It is worth to study furthermore.
