As we all know that language is the unique tool for mankind to exchange information, emotion and ideology. Different countries and nationalities have different languages, and each has its own special characteristics. With its distinctive national characteristic, language can also reflect national culture like a mirror. For a long period of time, languages of different nationalities have experienced great change and improvement, and became more and more mature. One thing that I must mention is idiom. As the essence of language, idiom has got rich cultural background because it related to the nation's history, custom, culture, religion, economy, geography, and so on. It is very important and instructive to study the characteristics of idioms of different languages, to learn the history of development of different languages, and to explore relation of the deep meaning of idioms from different languages.China is an ancient civilized country with more than 5000 years of history. South Korea and Russia are both close neighbors of China. The geological and historical differences of the three nations have made similarities as well as differences on their languages. In my thesis, I mainly focus on the idioms and proverbs of Chinese, Korean, and Russian. After made deep analysis on idioms of the three languages, I finally see the difference of the culture of the three nations.There are 4 chapters in my thesis, including a prefix.In the prefix, you can find my purpose of writing this thesis and how I wrote it.In the first chapter, I made a brief introduction of idioms, including the relation of language and culture, what to make an idiom, its characteristics and usage, previous achievement, and other basic information. I specially pointed out that idioms mentioned in my thesis are with broad meaning, including idioms and proverbs.In the second chapter, I made an analyses on the background of the formation of idioms in this three nations and why there are so many differences among idioms in this three nations through the origin of idioms, which are from fairy tales, ancient literature works, ancient historic events, and religion)In the three chapter, which is the most important chapter of my thesis, I made a through analysis on the inside cultural story of idioms by comparing the three nations' natural environment differences, civil contraction differences, and custom and cultural difference, which included clothing, food, system, animals and plants, and so on. The analysis also consists of how do idioms reveal its own inside cultural stories, and how do idioms make its culture so distinctive.In the fourth chapter, basic translating principals and methods of idioms of the three nations were clearly stated. I specially pointed out that we must guarantee the accurate translation of the under meaning ofidioms. We must focus on both its image meaning as well as its literal meaning if there is no cultural conflict. Several methods of translation were mentioned in my thesis: direct translation, literal translation, adding translation, and explanation translation.In order to make this thesis more convincing, relevant articles and documents from the three nations about idioms can also be found in my thesis. Some Korean and Russian paragraphs unavoidably can be found in my thesis, too, in order to make enrich and support my points of the thesis.
