During the years of the Republic of China, there ever had been a lot of British subjects in Chinese Xinjiang province, they brought about a series of outstanding social problems, which affected the history of Xinjiang so deeply that couldn't be ignored. The real meaning of this article is to reveal that the substance of the question of the British subjects is the result of the rivalry of Britain and Russia in central Asia and Chinese Xinjiang. The article researches the cause, the development and the end of this question systematically , according to the national situation and the whole political background of Xinjiang province at that time . In order to build up pro-British influence to scramble with Russian for hegemony and then to swallow up China, the British colonialists tempted people lived in Xinjiang to illegally gain British nationality by all means. So, a large number of British subjects appeared in Xinjiang with so many kinds of social problems, such as the registration of the British subjects, the riches, the tax, the law and so on. Through those British subjects, the British colonialists took some actions to counter the U.S.S.R to plot to break up Xinjiang, and to interfere in the sovereignty and diplomatic right of China. What the British colonialists had done influenced the economy, polity and diplomatic relations of Xinjiang seriously. Order to protect Xinjiang, the Chinese Republic took many of countermeasures to stop people who lived in Xinjiang pretending to be British nationals and to break down the British colonialists' plot. The question was solved finally. In a word, the article tries to show British colonialists how to invade Chinese Xinjiang and conclude the historical lesson.
