Chinese Cartoons is one of the important types of films in China,and its history constitutes part of the Chinese cinema history. The author systematically retrospects Chinese cartoons' history,in order to find out its internal laws of aesthetics, and summarizes cartoons'subjects, technique of expression, art style, aesthetical concept, developing laws and social reactions. On the basis of predecessors' achievements, the author has reviewed plenty of historical documents animated cartoons and studied many classical animated cartoons and their producers.Starting with explanation how cartoons were born and what are its essences, he then analyses historical situations of all periods of Chinese cartoons' history and international actual situation and anticipates cartoons'future trend. Throughout his article, he cites a lots of historical materials. At last, he contrasts Chinese cartoons with foreign ones from their respective survival and actual situation and points out deficiencies of Chinese cartoons and its own laws of production and market.
