In the process of adapting to the college life, new students have to develop their new social relations which in some degree would impact on their future development. In the new social environment of colleges, students are easy to feel lonely, and sometimes they find difficulties to accept the outside world and the other people around.This situation may cause obstacle on their social communication. The purpose of this study was to probe into the effect of the intervention of existential oriented group improvisation on new college students'social adaption skills . 39 new college students were involved in the experiment as the subjects and divided into experimental-group and controled-group under random sampling method. All subjects answered"Acceptance of Others"scale,"Social Avoidance and Distress Scale", and"Emotion-Social loneliness Inventory"as the data of pretest.Then intervene with group improvisation of music and discussion. The post tests were applied after 11 sessions. Conclusions are:1 The hypothesis of"Existential oriented group music improvisational intervention improves the level of acceptance to others of students"was supported by the result of this study(p< 0.05).2 The hypothesis of"Existential oriented group music improvisational intervention decreases the level of social avoidance and distress feelings of students"was supported by the results of this study(p<0.05).3 The hypothesis of"Existential oriented group music improvisational intervention decreases the level of loneliness of students"was not supported by the result of this study.
