Started in the 1990s in America, Constructivism has developed promptly. As it focuses on students, emphasises on developing the creativity of students and supplies multiple evaluation methods, Constructivism arouses great attention in the field of curriculum reform of the foundational education. It shares a great number of common points with the curriculum reform of the music education in teaching goals, methodology, content, environment and the relationship between teachers and students.After doing a lot of literature research related to Constructivism, the writer introduces some basic definitions and views in this thesis. From reviewing the drawbacks of the traditional music education in China, the writer describes the features of the new course of music education in China. According to the theory of Constructivism, the writer makes a thorough analysis on the practical effect which Constructivism has on the new course of music education in the following aspects: the role of teachers, the students' position, the teaching method, the learning style, the teaching design and the assessment mechanism. The writer suggestes several principles on constructive music teaching which are based on the learning views of Constructivism. And based on the foundation of these principles, the implemental strategies of the new constructivism course of the music education has been designed. In the end, the writer concludes that several relationships should be properly dealt with while guiding the classroom teaching of the new course of music education with constructivism.The theory of constructivism is an important theoretical foundation of the present music education reform in China. So it has both practical and theoretical meanings in doing research in the theory of constructivism and applying it to the present curriculum reform of music education.
