The thesis distinguishes and analyzes the synonyms of monosyllabic notional words in Mozi's literary works from the aspects of their scope of alleged and extent, pragmatic as well as original meaning, extended meaning and antonym, so as to make a theory interpretation and examination on the characteristics they have emerged in the works. It is hoped that we could be provided with some basic materials on research of Chinese history dating, especially vocabulary by means of description and analysis on them in Mozi. Besides, at the viewpoint of research method, the author would like to apply the measures in Semantics and Cognitive Linguistics into the exploration of Synonyms.The thesis is assembled by the parts below:Chapter one is introduction, which includes two parts of contents:one is to make a brief introduction about the book named Mozi, its writer's life as well as its spreading circumstances while the other making an overview on the past investigation on Ancient Chinese Synonyms, and Syllable synonym as well.In Chapter two, the author discriminated the Syllable synonyms in Mozi, which appeared mainly at the forms nouns, verb and adjective. This part is the core of the whole text, as well as the main way that the author revealed synonyms of monosyllabic notional words by way of distinguish. Through the whole process of differentiation, it is clearly to comprehend the general situation about Synonyms in Mozi, which helps the readers to understand the overall status of Monosyllabic Notional more easily.In Chapter three, the paper makes an deep analysis on the synonymous-connection format of monosyllabic synonyms and its measures in Mozi. The conclusion of this chapter was based on the distinguishing process in last chapter. The thesis shows synonymous-connection format of monosyllabic synonyms to the readers through the author's consideration and study.In chapter four, the author tells the reasons and approaches why research of synonyms can be formed. The causes are very many, among which internal factors of the language, cognitive factors and external factors are playing important roles. Furthermore, another two effective approaches caused synonyms of monosyllabic notional words in Mozi coming into being were semantic diversification and contextual interference.
