An important component part of the Chinese culture, Chinese traditional auspicious patterns have a long historical origin, rich in folk characteristics and lucky dermatoglyphic patterns. They originated from totem forms in ancient times, developed and enriched through different dynasties, continued and has been innovated by modern civilized society, and until today these patterns are still of great vitality. As a complete art form manifesting national history, the primitive belief of the ancient ancestors toward nature is the source of Chinese traditional auspicious patterns, the traditional Chinese philosophies their spiritual basis and the secular customs their mass foundation. Both their multiple forms of structure and artistic conceptions seeking luck and preventing misfortune mirror people's good wishes for good luck, happiness, longevity and festivity.The modern logo is a kind of symbolic signs of mass communication. Culture-based, graphically as a medium to convey specific information, it is widely used in all aspects of modern society. Now logo design, subject to the impact of western design ideas, is adept in the segmentation and combination of point, line, surface and body, emphasizing the sense of design and modernity. Integrated with the traditional auspicious patterns due to their special artistic values, modern logo design will gain new approaches and techniques of expression as well as enhance local culture charm and ethnic roots.This article probes into the application of traditional auspicious patterns to the modern logo design from four aspects, namely, the extraction and creation of forms of structure, the grasp and extension of artistic conception, the color reference and derivation and the inheritance and adoption of momentum. The author proposes that, in the process of modern logo design, the key is an accurate grasp of the national spirit and in-depth explanation, based on the transformation of traditional forms into modernity. By gradually digging, changing and transforming traditional auspicious patterns and making them new ideas and inspiration points can we design modern logo design with Chinese characteristics. When applying traditional auspicious patterns, we should give full consideration to the properties of logo design, the occurrence and development of which depend on the traditional culture intermediary. Therefore, during their application to logo design, we should pay close attention to homization, pour in emotional factors and present diversified culture, nationality and epochal character.The current article also touches upon the practical significance of logo design in the process of integration of cultural traditions. Traditional patterns can be used as the basis for a modern logo design. And modern logo design can also provide development opportunities for traditional auspicious patterns. They are of the same strain and can benefit each other. In the design process,"auspicious patterns"as the basic graphics should fully utilize the better"shapes", use their"colors", extend their"meanings"and pass their"potentials", so that the cultural spirit of the nation and the world language can integrate into the mainstream of modern design art. |
