Quality-oriented education includes ideological and moral education, culture and science education, physical quality education, psychological quality education, aesthetic appreciation quality education, working skill education and so on. In the whole system of quality-oriented education, aesthetic quality education is an important aspect.Generally speaking, Introduction to Fine Arts, Aesthetics, Chinese and Foreign History of Arts, and Arts Critics are listed in the scope of the Theory of Arts History. Setting up some related courses in higher vocational colleges mainly due to three reasons: first, it is to help the students construct a knowledge system structure of arts history and the theories. Secondly, it can develop the ability of finding, realizing, and understanding the content and form of the various kinds of beauty exist in the nature or in our life or in the field of arts. It can also complement the students'aesthetic appreciation psychological structure, and then improve their ability of appreciating, presenting and creating different beautiful things. Thirdly, through the study of the style characteristics of some arts works and the development process of arts and historical stories of some artists, the course could purify the students'soul, cultivate their character, and improve their taste so that they can become fully developed talents with high morals and professional skills.However, at present, influenced and limited by the traditional teaching modes, the teaching of Theory of Arts History is not mature enough for it is mainly to meet the need of teaching plans of some high vocational colleges. The problem is how to make it play its role and not just meet certain requirement. So it is an important target and research question for the reform of the course of Theory of Arts History in high vocational colleges to study how to cultivate professional talents with developing ability, modern humanistic quality and aesthetic appreciation quality. Through the generalization of the course reform in high vocational colleges and the analysis of the present situation of the teaching of Theory of Arts History, and based on some research results gained from practical teaching of Theory of Arts History, this thesis proposes a proper way for the course reform in high vocational colleges. It provides some theories and experiences for the further study of the course reform in high vocational colleges.
