During the Cold War ,the relationship between China and ASEAN countries had experienced a flexuous process . After the Cold War ,as the reconciliation of the international and regional situation and the strong desire to establish a good relationship , the Good-neighbourly partnership is becoming better and has some characteristics . The constant development of the partnership benefits not only the two sides but the Asia-Pacific Region as well . Since China and ASEAN countries are neighbours and both are developing countries , they need a peaceful environment to focus on the development of economy . The two sides have a lot in common on the international and regional affairs , which lays a solid foundation for their constant development . However , it is undoubted that the two sides have contradictions and differences on many problems such as the division of South Sea area ,Taiwan problem , oversea Chinese problem and so on . In December 1997 ,the headquarters of China and ASEAN countries declaired the joint statement : the two sides considered the Good-neighbourly and Mutually Trustful partnership as an important target in the 21st century . I put forward to my own opinions and suggestion on how to realize the aim as soon as possible .
