Globalization and the development of IT have had great impact on the environment of economy,technology and competition. The FDI of many SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) is not only the main trend of international competition, but also the inter demand of development. What are the feasibility and the characters of SMEs' FDI? And what's the problem in the performance? This paper will try to answer these questions. The paper is divided into five sections:The first part is introduction. This section introduces the increasingly important role of small and medium-sized transnational enterprises, especially those in developing countries, then points out the importance of FDI of SMEs in China.The second part is the reviews of the traditional theories of FDI, especially the FDI theories of developing countries, therefor providing the theoretical base of the following study.The third part discusses the influence brought by the changes of economy, technology and competition environment, and analyzes the necessity and feasibility of SMEs FDI.The forth part analyzes the concrete characters of the FDI of SMEs, including the current performance, type, and so on, trying to provide a clear feature of the this behavior.The last part analyzes the problems existing in both the SMEs who carry out FDI and the social environment, and puts forwards some suggestions accordingly.
