With the development of the global financial liberalization and integration, the western multinational banks (MNBs) are actively trying to build their branches or subsidiaries to run the financial business all over the world. Since 1979 China began to open domestic financial market to the outside world step by step, more than 80 MNBs have entered China's market. During the past 22 years they have been developing so rapidly that they are playing a very important role in the economics of China. After China's accession to the WTO in November this year the foreign banks in China will develop more rapidly. This thesis is on the research of the operational and developing strategies of foreign banks in China. In the first part of the thesis the theoretical driving force and reasons of the multinational operation of the banks are listed, based on which the thesis analyses the factual reasons and driving force that have caused so many MNBs to enter China and then actively to extend the market in China. In the following part comes the emphasis of the thesis, that is the research of the successful strategies that have been implemented by the foreign banks in China, which are decided by the certain factual driving reasons analyzed in the first part. The successful strategies include the organization strategy, human resource strategy, risk management strategy, information management strategy, market orientation strategy, customer centralized strategy, brand development strategy, technology and business innovation strategy. The first four strategies belong to the inside strategies, and the last four belong to the market strategies. The third part puts the emphasis on the prediction of adjustment of the strategies according to the future changes of the banking operational environment in China because of China's accession to the WTO.
