The day-to-day worsening of the global ecological environment forces people to focus more and more on the issue of environment and sustainable development. The fundamental solution to this issue rests with the solution of cities' sustainable development. A new relevant concept "ecocity" has become a hotspot both in the current theoretic study and the practice field. And if a city wants to achieve its ecocity development goal, it must have a scientific strategic plan. This thesis attempts to apply both ecological economics theory and city planning theory to analyse the ecocity, especially its macro strategic plan, and put forward that " urban and rural integration" will become the macro strategic plan of ecocities. This thesis contains four chapters:Chapter I introduces the concept of "ecocity". Introduces the process and the times background in which this concept was brought forward; sums up the main characteristics of an ecocity; and analyses the conflict and conciliation between the ecocity and economic rationality.Chapter II is the qualitative and quantitative analysis of an ecocity. Concludes the criteria of an ecocity; applies the index system of "City Ecological Support System", which was designed by Yang Yun and others, to evaluate Dalian "City Ecological Support System".Chapter III is the core part. Hereby we put forward that the macro strategic plan for an ecocity will be the "urban and rural integration". Introduces the concept in two different ways: economics and city strategic planning; with the "urban and rural harmonious development theory and "urban and rural amalgamation design theory" as our theoretic base, by reviewing human history, we affirm that "urban and rural integration" will become the development trend; briefly intros the global template ecocity Berkeley; and in allusion to the situation in China, we analyses the opportunity that is brought with the integration to the country.Chapter IV forecasts the development foreground of an ecocity. Ecocity is thecombination of idealism and realism, which is not far from us. Since the ecological problem is a global problem, to build an ecocity can't be done alone. It depends on global action.
