After the end of the Cold War, the United States became the only superpower all over the world. It has the willingness to be the only hegemon and to establish some kind of international order with the United States at the center. On the other hand, with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the transition of international structure, another wave of nationalist movements broke out. Particularly, separatism has become one of the most complicated and hot issue. A series of regional conflicts have been triggered by separatist movements.Since the United States has the tradition of interventionism, it's inevitable for the United States to be involved in the separatist movements all over the world. For its own national interests, and with regards to its global strategy, the United States has different attitudes to the separatist movements in different countries, thus it has different foreign policies respectively, which reflects the pragmatism and opportunism principle of the US' foreign policy. The intervention of the United States has violated international laws and the sovereignty of other countries. This kind of foreign policy will have a great influence to the international order in the new era after the end of the Cold War. Meanwhile the intervention can not resolve the problem of separatism of other countries, and to some degree may encourage the separatist trend in other countries because of the partial stand of the United States to the separatists.
