On The Chinese Kuomintang In Taiwan, " Ruling Party " During The Change And Its Causes

Withdraw from the mainland to Taiwan Island in 1949, Kuomintang (KMT) has experienced three political periods: the Jiang Jieshi Age,the Jiang Jingguo Age and the Li Denghui Age.During the Jiang Jieshi and the Jiang Jingguo Age, KMT's political policies had changed greatly: the ruling area shrunk from the whole country to an island; the political system has changed from " ruling by mono-party " to "ruling by multi-parties"; the policy-making procedures have changed from totalitarian institution of mono-party to democratization; the nature of the party changed from "revolutionary party" to "democratic party"; the working-style is turned from rigidity, conservatism to flexibility and practice. The reasons for those changes were as follows: (1) The changes in Taiwan's economic system and people's increasing political awareness (2) The deficiency of KMT's political policy in mainland (3) the rising of the enlightened group in KMT (4) The correct assessment of the situation by Jiang Jingguo (5) The challenge by the outside the Party (6) the adjustments of mainland's Taiwan policy and the implementation of the "Open-door policy" (7) The pressure from the US.KMT has decayed during the Li Denghui Age. KMT began to split, had serious corruption problem, adopted extreme nativism, advocate "Two country policy", settled restricts to mainland, adopted directelection in Taiwan and resumed autocratic government. There were four reasons for those actions. (1) Completely deviation from "Three Principles of the People" (2) the idea "Independency of Taiwan" proposed by Li Denghui (3) the split of KMT (4) the support from US.After the failure of the 2000's election, KMT has taken some necessary changes. The reasons were as follows: (1) KMT wishes to take rights again (2) The enlightened group in KMT wanted to own the upper power in KMT (3) The hope placed on KWT by Taiwan people (4) Chen Shuibian's "Independency of Taiwan" policy.
