On the basis of the existing theories on enterprise core competence, this dissertation discusses the relationship between the enterprise core competence theories and practical enterprise management patterns, and designs the core competence evaluation system of petrochemical enterprises which aims to evaluate five aspects of Sinopec including comprehensively-competition scale, profitability, operational safety, innovation and development, figure out whether Sinopec has the core competence and put forward the suggestions on how to build it. According to the analysis of the existing theories, it sets up the definition on the core competence of petrochemical enterprises and establishes the proper core competence evaluation index system of petrochemical enterprises by virtue of the particularity of petrochemical industry and the current research situation of the evaluation index system. It combines the qualitative analysis with the quantitative analysis. On the one hand, the qualitative analysis involves the basic management principle such as G-PEST method when analyzing the macro environment and Porter's five-forces model when analyzing the industrial competitive forces. On the other hand, the quantitative analysis includes the comparativeness method. According to this dissertation, it comes out with the conclusion that Sinopec hardly has the core competence comparing with the other three multinational petrochemical companies which have been selected as the references, and this dissertation puts forward the suggestions on how Sinopec build its core competence.
