In the end of 1940s and 1950s of the last century, the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Kuomintang (KMT) carried out successful land reforms in Chinese mainland and in Taiwan Island respectively. In regard to the land reform in Chinese mainland, many scholars wrote articles and books to air their own views about the reform. Comparatively, there are few works concerning the land reform carried out in Taiwan Island. Therefore, the author of the thesis carried a study on the "land reform in Taiwan Island" which will provide an new angel for the study of the transform of Chinese land system.The thesis is divided into five parts:Part One: Introduction. The introduction mainly explains the reasons and significance of the author 's writing this thesis. Besides, the focal points and difficult points also refer in this part.Part Two: To analyze the reasons and aims of land reform in Taiwan. Concerning the reasons to carry out the land reform in Taiwan, there are three ones. The first is the need of the economic development after Taiwan recover, the second is the require of the secure of Kuomintang's governess in Taiwan, and the main reason is that the prevailing thought of "The land-to-the-Tiller" which is first mentioned by Sun Zhongshan had been received by the public.Part Three: The practice of land reform in Taiwan. There are three important stages in carrying out the land reform in Taiwan: The 37.5% Farm Rent Limitation, The Sale of Public Land, and The Land-to-the-Tiller. Then author compared the policy of land reform in Taiwan with the policy in mainland proposed by Kuomintang and analyzed the reasons for the success of the land reform in Taiwan.Part Four: To evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the land reform in Taiwan. The land reform in Taiwan puts an end to feudalism system, secures the governess of Kuomintang, and provides for the economic development. However, the land reform in Taiwan is far from thoroughness.Part Five: Conclusion. To consider the differences between the two kinds of land reform: one is forcible revolution and the other is peace transition. Moreover, the author provides the implications about the study.
