Xi'an People's Commune Movement

The movement of merging agricultural produccers' cooperative in rural areas of Xi'an took place in July ,1958. At the end of this month ,the seeds of the People's Commune turned up ,and then spread all throuth the city's rural areas .Although a pilot project was carried out in some place of suburb county ,the course was so short that the climax soon came after it .At the end of September, the People's Communization was completed in the rural areas of Xi'an City.Influenced by the movement of the People's Commune in rural areas.residents in some neighbourhood of Xi'an also went into action .In August,1958,they set up producers'and servers' cooperatives.These cooperatives were seeds of People's Commune in urban areas .As a result of this ,Xi'an stood in the forefront of the movement in China .Later ,the People's Commune in urban areas made slow progress . To the spring of 1960 , from the districts of urban areas to county towns of rural areas .people set off an upsurge of the people's communization . It was not completed until the eve of May Day.Afterwards, the People's Commune went through such stages as consolidation , basical stablization and dying out. This movement led us to contemplate about it.The movement of People's Commune in Xi'an was impractical. It was a Great Leap Forward in the field of production relations, and had a far-reaching impact on urban and rural areas in Xi'an. The influences on Xi'an's economy, society and CPC's construction were bad.
