Twenty-first centuries is a great century with many opportunities and challenges.Some varieties of regional organizations based on the geopolitics are booming,which is not only a kind of new character and a phenomenon,but an important trend in nowadays.Some regional organizations,for example,North America Free Trade Area(NAFTA),Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN)and European Union(EU)are prominent,and European Union is the highest organization in the integration among these organizations.With the cold war finished,tremendous changes have taken place in the world pattern. Especially the EU-the most developed region in the world.The unity of the Germany made more unbalance of power between east-Europe and west-Europe.In spite of escaping the control of the politics,economics and military from the Soviet Union,the mid-east European countries have proposed the slogan of"returning to the Europe".This is not only the necessity of the economic development and political independence,but the necessity of the historical and cultural character of the mid-east European countries.On the other side,from the establishment of the EU,it committed itself to expand and deepen all the time,each member of the EU share the fields of cooperation from the economics sphere to the politics and military sphere.As an increasingly powerful EU,it always strive for achieving the dream of"The Great Europe", which required some mid-east European countries originally owned by the Soviet Union to take part in the EU.The EU' eastern enlargement has changed the geopolitics pattern in the Europe.Meanwhile, it will be having an influence deeply on the world.Because EU is the largest regional economic and political integration organization in the world,and it is an indispensable pole in the multipolar world;the most important,the EU's eastern enlargement will have an important influence on the EU's interior mechanism even the whole world.So,the EU's eastern enlargement has been a highlight by some experts and scholars in the international fields.According to the widespread contact standpoint in the thing dialectic,the EU's eastern enlargement will have an important influence not only the EU and the mid-east countries but the US,Russia and China.The supranational nature of the EU will challenge to the international politics theories and the international laws.The EU's eastern enlargement will have benefit to develop the integration theories,and help to develop the economic cooperation for the Sino-US and Sino-ASEAN.In view of the importance of researching the EU,more and more experts and scholars begin to study and research the EU.The research is making some progresses and bearing fruits by the promotion of the cooperation of the higher education between the China and EU in 1996,which will have more benefits to the cooperation of the Sino-EU.The dissertation is the more exhaustive and all-embracing research based on the author's study and learn from the other's experts.The dissertation is composed of five parts.In the first part,it elaborates the EU's eastern enlargement and the process of the EU's eastern enlargement.In the second part,the dissertation discusses the deep-seated reasons for the EU's eastern enlargement.It argues that the cultural,geopolitical,economic and safe reasons are pushing forward the EU's eastern enlargement.In this part,the author analyzes the EU's east enlargement is benefit to the EU and the middle-east countries by the western international relation theories.In the third part,it analyzes the profit and cost of the EU's eastern enlargement to the EU and the middle-east countries.And the fourth part,EU's eastern enlargement will have some influences not only for the international countries,such as the US,Russia and China.The result of EU's eastern enlargement will lead to the"domino"effect of the regional integration.Lastly,the dissertation gives the prediction about the developing EU,which must have a bright future with many problems in the process,for example,the finance,the inner mechanism and the sovereignty etc.But,the EU'S eastern enlargement is the trend of the times and irreversible transformation,Moreover,the chances are more than the challenges in the EU's developing process.The author firmly believes that the EU will be successfully fulfill its eastern enlargement, which is bound to promote the world's pace,so long as the EU's leaders strives and the Europeans assimilates.
