The Mathematics Curriculum Standards in the Phase of Full-time Compulsory Education (Experimental Manuscript) points out that mathematics teaching is to make students experience in person the progress to abstract practical problems into mathematical models, and then make explanations and put it into practice, consequently making students acquire mathematical understanding, and improve and develop in many ways, such as thinking abilities, emotional attitudes and values etc. Therefore, the research on mathematical modeling in teaching activities of junior middle school has become a vital problem that can't be neglected. This paper is based on the practical situations of mathematics teaching in junior middle school, aims to permeate the normal classes with the idea of mathematical modeling, and systematically studies the course and methods that mathematical modeling is infused into teaching. In the meanwhile, it also offers teaching designs and teaching cases.This paper firstly expounds the practical background and research methods to raise the question.Secondly, this paper introduces relevant concepts, mathematical modeling teaching and its current research situations and theoretical basis. Relevant concepts include mathematical modeling, features of mathematical modeling in junior middle school, and teaching designs. It introduces the mathematical modeling teaching and its current research situations from two angles: developing status of mathematical modeling both home and abroad, and teaching studies. It also studies the theoretical basis of mathematical modeling in junior middle school under new curriculum standard from three theoretical aspects, i.e. constructivism, problem solving and metacognition.The main content of the third part lists the five links of teaching design of mathematical modeling in junior middle school: analyzing the teaching objects, determining the teaching objectives and choosing the teaching content, defining the teaching model and time, designing teaching procedures, and devising teaching evaluations. It studies every link based on the requirements of the new curriculum standards.And then, it designs teaching cases, puts teaching cases into effect, and analyzes and evaluates the practical effects under the guidance of the five links and its analysis in the third part.
