In the 21st century, as a result of basic education curriculum reform, English educationstarting from grade three has been introduced in every province.Primary education help student tp master some basic elements of English learning, to cultivate their attitudes and interests,to develop their ability to learn English well,form the preliminary simple ability in daily communication in English. Therefore, English teaching in primary schools is not only the basic period but also the crucial moment of English learning.Through the literature review,the writer finds that documents and researches for English teaching in primary school has been increacing, but the studies for English—classroom instruction in primary school is relatively rare.In addition,the researches on English—classroom instruction in rural primary schoolsare getting on,but it is rather less researches on the comparative studies between city and country. Considering the young pupils'psychology, characteristics of study, and English method,the writer analyzes English teaching of the urban and rural primary schools. Based on the classroom observation,the writer introduces the differences of teaching English between urban and rural primary schools,from the perspective of lead-in, teaching process and summary. The writer points out that there are differences in English teaching between urban and rural primary schools,but there are more obvious drawbacks in the latter. The writer tries to find out the reasons which results in the differences and suggests how to improve English teaching in terms of school environment,teachers and teaching facilities.The thesis consists of five parts. each part of specific content as follows:Thefirst part:Introduction.This part mainly covers the studybackground,including basis and significance of research , a summary of literature and the research methods;The second part , contrast analysis of English language classroom between urban and rural primary school. According to the basic idea of English teaching in primary school,and the materials of classroom observation, the writer described the present condition of English language classroom both in urban and rural primary schools,in terms oflead-in, teaching process (including teaching methods, classroom interaction and evaluation) and summary,then form a sharp contrast in both sides. The third part, analysis the reasons which results in the differences of English language classroom between urban and rural primary schools.In this part, the author concretely analyze the reasons which results in differences. The specifically reason has external and internal reasons, External reason: the diferences of investment, the diferences of the school curriculum,the differents of the school management, the differents of the parents'educational concept and social environment. Internal reasons: the diferences of english teacher's subjective effort ,the diferences of students'motive power .The last part is to suggest how to improve English teaching in rural primary schools and then lessen the difference between the city and countryside . In this part, according to the present situation and reason inearlier two parts,the writer puts forward some suggestions: Increasing education investment;Perfecting teaching facilities of rural primary school; Strengthening English teachers team of rural primary school to promote professional development; Strengthening exchange and cooperation between two shools in order to optimize English language classroom in rural primary school; Emphasising on curriculum implementation of primary English to enhance English basis of rural pupils; Transforming teacher's concept, using scientific research to promote teaching; Optimizing the English language learning environment.The difference between between urban and rural areas is the fundamental social problems existing in China, and the difference of English language classroom between urban and rural primary school is also inevitable existence. In comparison, the development of English language classroom in rural primary is in disadvantage condition, but it has been developing. Therefore, in order to make the balanced development of urban and rural areas ,society, school and all English teachers try hard to develop primary English education of rural school.
