With the increasing growth of modern social knowledge, the traditional learning makes it impossible to meet with the challenges brought by the individual coping with science and technology, as well as the rapid development of the society.The change of learning method is the main characteristic of the eighth curricular reform being conducted in China.The new curriculum requires the students to apply the learning approaches of self learning,cooperation and research study.Therefore, the major task of the today's educators is to assist the students to attain the awareness of self learning and the learning ability.The essay focuses on the discussion about the problems of the high school students' forming and development of self learning ability in the geography practice activity.Based on the theory of famous B.J Zimmerman's self-learning frame and model, combining the quantitative and qualitative approaches, using classroom observing, interview, teaching and analysis of the works, etc, I do some research on the how to develop the students'self learning ability in geography teaching by creating learning environment, motivating their awareness and forming good learning behavior.The research reveals:the students'self learning ability can be gradually strengthened by activating their inner learning motivation and adjusting leaning behavior from outside.When learning becomes a requirement and a habit, the students will unconsciously regulate their learning behavior, initiatively learn and actively carry out research study.As a result, the effective self learning awareness comes in being.Meanwhile it is also discovered in the research that what have some influences on the validity and reliability of the research is inadequate research on learning strategies and time management, the lack of unified standards about self-learning assessment and untypical representation of the samples, etc.Thus much emphasis on these aspects should be put in the future research.
