| During the eight years of the Anti-Japanese War from1937to1945, China’seducation suffered huge damages brought by the aggression of Japanese imperialists,and secondary education, the most important section of the whole education system,was no exception. When the nation was in peril, secondary education was attachedgreater importance to by ROC Government, who formulated a series of policies andmeasures to develop the destroyed secondary education and made constantadjustments and improvements on the secondary education system to suit the war time.Through the joint efforts of the government and middle-school teachers and students,secondary education yielded remarkable fruit in the adverse circumstance, and madedue contributions to the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.In this paper, the development of secondary education in rear areas during theAnti-Japanese War is researched, and comprehensive data on the development ofsecondary education in the wartime is systematically sorted, analyzed andsummarized. This paper is mainly composed of the introduction, main body andconclusion. The main body includes five parts. The first part gives a generalintroduction to the destruction of secondary education due to Japanese invasion, theshelters for teachers and students in the war area provided by ROC Government, aswell as the secondary education system developed by ROC Government and itsdevelopment status prior to the war. In the second and third parts, two chapters areused to discuss the policies and measures for developing secondary education takenby ROC Government during the wartime as well as their effects, including somespecific measures (such as the zoning system for secondary schools and thecompounding system), government’s aids to teachers and students, and so on. In thefourth part, the development of secondary education in the wartime and itscharacteristics are separately analyzed. The last part analyzes the impact andsignificance of developing secondary education in the wartime. The conclusionsection summarizes the whole paper, and analyzes the experiences and lessons fromthe development of secondary education in the Anti-Japanese War period. |
