Game teaching has been commonly applied in lower-grade education in the primary school in recent years. It plays an indispensable role in arousing children’s enthusiasm for learning, developing a right cognitive need and promoting their individual socialization as well as their healthy physical and mental development. Therefore, this paper conducts investigations and analysis of the ongoing game teaching in lower-grade mathematics and proposes the corresponding education strategy based on the existing problems, hoping to give some insight into the mathematics teaching lower grades.Combining the in-class observation and related theoretical knowledge, I hold that game teaching in lower-grade mathematic teaching perfectly meets the need of lower-grade primary mathematics teaching itself, helps links kindergarten and primary school education, and adapts the curriculum reform. As ancient tricks enjoyed by most people, game and game teaching has been long been valued by educators. On the basis of the previous theories, this paper defines game theory a teaching method combining effectively games and teaching, entertainment and education while focusing on children’s comprehensive development. Games are vital in children’s development in its positive role to promote children’s physical and mental development, stimulate their emotional and cognitive development, and enhance their overall social development. Therefore, the application of game teaching in lower-grade has played a positive role in children’s development. Appropriate in lower-grade in primary schools and in accordance of the new curriculum requirements, the fine qualities of game teaching has laid solid foundation in its application in primary schools. In order to know more about the application of game teaching in lower-grade of primary schools, the author conduct surveys in the form of questionnaire and interviews among students of2-3rd grade and teachers respectively. The observation and analysis conclude that, in spite of a clear awareness of the positive role of game teaching in primary education, many teachers apply very little in their actual teaching practice, with an indefinite teaching goal, loose management and formality in game teaching with no substantial significance. The main reasons include that, teachers are insufficient in the underlying characteristics and principles of lower-grade education in primary schools, as well as in teaching management. In addition, in the the exam-oriented education atmosphere and under the pressure of larger class teaching, game teaching finds itself difficult in actual practice.Based on the above investigation and analysis, the author concludes that, teachers should be able to devote more efforts in the following aspect. First, carry out game teaching with a focus of curriculum goals and teaching content in mathematics, strive to highlight its role in the cultivation of children’s interest and confidence in mathematics, the promoting of children’s mathematic knowledge and thinking, as well as their problem-solving abilities. Second, choose the right game type according to the teaching contents, combining both scientific and instructive sides. Also strengthen in-class management to regulate students’ in-class behavior. Finally, teachers should enhance their ability of game teaching by constant leaning and reflection of their teaching, thus to better help students in their learning of mathematics.
