Textbook of Chinese study consists of four parts, including materials selection system, knowledge system, exercise system and help-reading system which is made up of a series of material elaborately designed to help students study, understand texts and develop independent learning habits. Among the main four systems in Chinese textbook, help-reading system, which has direct effect on students’interest in study, capability to comprehend and ponder over texts, undoubtedly reflects to the fullest its compilers’ idea and standard of compilation. Accordingly, help-reading system is of great importance. Through comparison of help-reading systems between largely-used Chinese teaching material by People Education Press School textbook in the mainland and by Hanlin Press in Taiwan, their own advantages and disadvantages can be greatly reflected. There are some advantages in compilation of Hanlin Press that compilers in the mainland can learn from, such as design of question and lead-in as well as introduction of background. Because of the difference in compilation idea and methodology, help-reading systems across the Taiwan Straits are also different. Readers can get a comprehensive and objective knowledge of mutual advantage and disadvantages to reach mutual improvement in compilation of teaching material by comparison of two systems, analysis of them based on the same selected text as well as their external reading resources. The thesis is made up of five parts. The first part serves as an introduction part, including origin of the topic, current situation of researches on Chinese help-reading system, object of study and research method. The second part mainly deals with contents and characteristics of the two editions of Chinese textbook. Then the third part makes comparison of two help-reading systems based on analysis of Gua Ren Zhi Yu Guo Ye which is selected in both editions while the forth part is a comparison of internal help-reading system in the Chinese textbook by PEP and by Hanlin Press. The fifth part introduces eternal help-reading resources and probes into their own characteristics. The sixth part provides some enlightenment about help-reading systems in both editions to point out some advantages that teaching material in the mainland can learn from Taiwan, and to put forward some suggestions to improve both internal and external help-reading systems.
