Composition teaching is always a major task of Chinese teaching. But affected by examinational compositions for so long, it has met quantities of problems which have an immediate impact on the effectiveness of our teaching. As a result, experiential composition teaching came into being. This paper attempts to explore the new teaching idea based on a deep understanding of composition teaching according to the new curricular standards.This paper elaborates the concept of experiential composition teaching and discusses the characteristics such as initiative, emotionality and authenticity on the basis of confirming what experience is. It also demonstrates the rationality of experiential composition teaching in terms of writing psychology and educational psychology (constructivism and humanism), which provides a theory prop for the research.Through an analysis on the data from a questionnaire survey on composition teaching and composition writing among some teachers and students as well as interviews with individual students, the author has found out the reason for the current situation of writing teaching, which makes the following research more pertinent and provides real materials for further research.The application of experiential composition teaching elaborates on the feasibility of practice of experiential writing teaching, which emphasizes on students’emotional experience and life accumulation. Therefore, we should advise students to experience life with heart while we teach writing, such as guiding students to obverse life to generate life experience, organizing activities to deepen it, encouraging students to read more texts to get richer experience. Then we can advise them to write them down in their entries or spiritual files as an accumulation of life experience. In actual practice, we prefer a dynamic teaching process. We should assign a people-oriented and life-oriented topic to make it easier for students to talk about. With a topic like this, students can have a discussion with each other which will broaden their mind, activate experiences and enrich writing materials. Apart from this, teachers can also create situations for students to experience and express it with emotion. When they finish writing, there are kinds of ways to revise their compositions. They may revise by themselves or teachers or for each other. Teachers can prepare a sample writing for them to revise. All the above will strengthen their experience and is of great help to the improvement of their writing ability.
