This thesis proposed a new teaching model of combined Task-Based language teaching approach with Traditional language teaching approach. The study was conducted based on the previous work of the task-based teaching approach and the traditional teaching approach, with focusing on teaching Chinese language to the oversea Chinese children in America whose first languages are English, and on studying the feasibility and effectiveness of using the Task-Based teaching approach for oversea Chinese language teaching.The thesis emphasized the comparison of the Tasked-Based teaching approach with the Traditional teaching approach, described the development of the Task-Based teaching approach, its features, view of the language and elements of tasks as well as the procedure of the tasks. In particular, the thesis systematically summarized the fundamental characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, and the difference in applying to teaching the second language between use of the Tasked-Based teaching approach and the Traditional teaching approach, The characteristics of the Task-Based teaching approach are: a teaching approach based on practicing task activities as objective for learning. It is a new teaching method stemmed from the communicative teaching approach. It proposes "Doing things with language", focuses on language meaning and learning by practicing in a simulated real environment, thus effectively enhances the communicative ability of the students. The thesis also presented detailed classroom teaching examples by using the Task-Based teaching approach, including the assignment of task activities, Pre-Task-Activities, and focused language analysis etc.. It is the hope that by using this new teaching model to introduce role of the tasks at the beginning, the students can increase their enthusiasm and creativity for language learning. The thesis pointed out that at the beginning learning stage for young oversea Chinese children, one should use more the Traditional teaching approach and less the Task-Based teaching approach in applying the combined teaching model. While with grade increasing, one should use more the Task-Based teaching approach and reduce the use of the Traditional teaching approach in order to achieve the best effect of learning, classroom practicing and the ability of interacting with a simulated real environment for students.
