The fast developing stage of middle school students is not only a key period for their mental and physical development, but also an important stage for their individual socialization. During the process of socialization, interpersonal communication is an essential ability. For most middle school students, homes and schools are fundamental places of their primary socialization. Therefore, people who they communicate with are mostly classmates, teachers and parents. However, because of various problems from individuals, families, schools and society, some middle school students are either not able to communicate with others, or afraid of making interpersonal communication. There are also other problems in their interpersonal communication skills, which can be harmful for these students’ future lives. Hence, developing their interpersonal communication skills, helping them to form correct communication criteria, and promoting harmony of their interpersonal relationship are non-ignorable parts of their education. This essay makes comprehensive analyses on the current status of middle school students’ interpersonal skills by using surveys and SPSS16.0statistics. The goal is to improve their interpersonal communication abilities by applying peer education, which can help them establish healthy values and behavioral criteria in their relations with their parents, teachers, friends and people of the opposite sex. The hypothesis is that peer education can have a positive effect in improving middle school students’ interpersonal communication skills. The research result has proved that peer education has significant effects in improving relations with teachers, friends and people of the opposite sex (P<0.01), but there is no clear improvement in the relations with parents.
