Ceramic art is a kind of popular art style widely spread in the world and one of the popularized forms of education. Pottery course is one of the most effective courses to cultivate creativity and hands-on abilities, and stimulate imagination and aesthetic creation in junior middle school. It can make the students be aware of the ceramic culture and learn to make pottery. Additionally, it has positive impacts on balancing emotion, coordinating mental and physical development, developing spatial intelligence and fostering the collaboration with others. Reception and creation work throughout the whole process of ceramic teaching which aims to foster the above abilities and enhance practical skills for creating excellent ceramic works. This thesis intends to achieve efficiency of "reception and creation" in junior middle schools. In order to achieve this goal, the study contains theoretical analysis and empirical study. In the part of theoretical analysis, the author applies the way of literature review to analyze the current situation and problems. On this basis, the author focuses on the theories summarizing of ceramic art and ceramic education in junior middle schools for forming the foundation of the following empirical study.In the part of empirical research, this thesis carries out a case study in High-tech No.1Middle School and High-tech No.3Middle School of Xi’an, and analyzes the current situation of ceramic education. Due to the limitations of the condition in these two schools, the teaching contents are only limited in guiding students to make simple molding works. Besides, the teaching is not comprehensive and systematic. Thus, the author intends to explore the strategies of ceramic education development combining with the abundant local resources in Shaanxi Province. The teaching materials are collected from ceramics bar, ceramics factory, ceramics museum and private studio. The author investigates the available resources and applies them into teaching methods and puts emphasis on solving the problem of unsystematic ceramic education. However, there is a need to further the designation of ceramics curriculum, and discuss the methods of carrying out cooperation work with ceramics bar, ceramics factory, ceramics museum and private studio. Basically, put these into practice for overcoming the bottleneck problem.
