It’s well known that the nature of future confrontation in the military field lies in the competition of military talents. Therefore, the training of high-quality new military talents by relying on local universities and colleges becomes crucial to the construction of an informationized troop and the winning of IT-based warfare. As the education system of national defense students, that is, the training system of military talents relying on national education for our troops, has been fully implemented, the selection and cultivation of reserve officers for our army has changed from mainly relying on military academies to depending on national education with the result that the national defense students become the major source of reserve officers.The cultivation of national defense students by relying on national education is a pioneering work in the development of military talents training in China. Although it is newly emerged, on the way to explore how to educate and train the national defense students, education models at different levels have been gradually formed according to the characteristics of all services and armies and local universities and colleges as well, among which dispersive education model and systematic education model are two of the most typical. By applying the scientific research methodologies, such as literature review, survey, comparison, and empirical study, and relevant theories of Management and Pedagogy of Higher Education, this paper makes a comparative study on the two typical education models in terms of cultivation mechanism, cultivation process and cultivation results and further elaborates the advantages of systematic education model over dispersive education model. Meanwhile, targeting at the existing problems of systematic education model, the author puts forth opinions and suggestions on how to further strengthen and improve the education models of national defense students. Finally, systematic education model of national defense students has been proved effective through the carefully-selected case study, that is, education program of national defense system in the North University of China, which provides practical ideas and approaches to the perfection of education system of national defense students relied on local universities and colleges.This research aims to explore the most suitable education model of national defense students which, to meet the need of military transformation with Chinese characteristics, both fits the talents education rules of higher education and disciplinary development of military talents for the purpose of developing new military talents who could truly adapt to the future infornmationized warfare. In conclusion, being guided by the standpoint, perspective, and approaches of Maxism, this paper, with its theme on the improvement of education model of national defense students, endeavors to provide references for military administrative authorities and education administrations to further perfect the educational models of national defense students against the background of new military revolution worldwide and military transformation with Chinese characteristics.
