Britain has never stopped to reform and enhance Pre-school education since thelate1990s. Specifically education curriculum outlines have been constantly updated.There are several milestones, such as Early Learning Goals in1999, CurriculumGuideline for the Foundation Stage in2000, and Statutory Framework for the EarlyYears Foundation Stage, EYFS in2008. All these movements have contributed to thelatest and the most integrated version, the Statutory Framework for the Early YearsFoundation Stage, EYFS in2012. The2012version was updated to includeevaluation of child development and the requirement of child welfare. Therefore, the2012version has been widely implemented as the standard of pre-school education inthe Britain.This thesis adapted comparative and analytic research methods. This paperaddresses areas such history, background, purpose, content and patters of StatutoryFramework for the Early Years Foundation Stage2012. The author is hoping toacquire experiences to help improving quality of Chinese education. Therefore, wecan also promote the equal education opportunity and pursue pre-school education’slegislation.There are six sections:In this section, the author explains the intention for this paper, defines relatedterms and briefly reviews current researches. The purpose of this paper and researchmethods are also discussed in this section.In this section, the author reviews the evolution of education curriculum inBritain. There are several revisions regarding the standard of education curriculumfrom1990s. The paper covers summaries of all related guidelines sine1999. Thus, wemay vertically compare all guidelines with Statutory Framework for the Early YearsFoundation Stage, EYFS2012.This section includes the grounding of Statutory Framework for the Early YearsFoundation Stage, EYFS2012and its influence on British pre-school education. Italso includes background information on social political, economic and cultural needs; and needs of pre-school education development in the Britain.This section majorly discusses the content of Statutory Framework for the EarlyYears Foundation Stage, EYFS2012. Major goals; basic principles; requirements ofchild development, child development, child evaluation and child welfare are allcovered.This section reviews changes the Statutory Framework for the Early YearsFoundation Stage, EYFS2012has made; especially changes compared to the2008version.In this section, the author suggests that the Statutory Framework for the EarlyYears Foundation Stage, EYFS2012is a reference to Chinese pre-school education.In addition, the author proposes potential ideas to improve implementing childeducation and development requirements, child evaluation and child welfareregulations.
