Hierarchical teaching is an idea originated in European and Americancountries in the middle1900s, which began to be studied and practiced byvarious schools in China. Since the November,2011, based on the newcurriculum reform, Guandu No.2High School in Kunming, has conducted theexperiment of hierarchical teaching among senior students. With the purposeof improving students’ autonomous learning, cooperative learning andexploratory learning in the new curriculum reform, students have achievedimprovement in knowledge, ability and quality. In this research, the school andteachers also play role a different from the traditional one, trying to bestudent-oriented and forming a new teaching pattern.This thesis focuses on the detailed research and analysis abouthierarchical teaching in Chinese language, whose theory integratesconstructivism, behaviourism, and social cognitivism. After studying how toform and organize a hierarchical group of students, how to plan and carry outa class teaching plan, how to assess teaching efficiency and some otherrelated problems, a three-dimensional model of hierarchical teaching hasbeen gradually developed, which is suitable for Guandu No.2High School. Inthe fields of Chinese language teaching practice, reading instruction,composition instruction, elective courses instruction in groups andinvestigative study instruction are all involved by means of hierarchicalteaching. The final teaching result reflects that hierarchical teaching is aoperable and effective approach in Chinese language teaching, bringingstudents pleasure and success.
