With the development of the city’s economic development, many cities have emerged a number of foreign labors. It constantly opens a wave of worker tide. Along with the increasing number of those living in the city of migrant children, the education problem is becoming the heated focus by people. Whether there is a difference between the education situation of migrant workers’ children and urban children and which factors in the family have an influence on migrant children’s academic performance are questions that need to be researched.This study investigated the present situation of the migrant children’s academic performance by questionnaire and literature review. This research focused on the impact of family factors on migrant children’s academic performance. The family factors can be parents’ occupations in migrant children family, economic status, parents’ expectations, parents’ educational way, family structure, etc. Some related resolution strategies are put forward and discussed.This thesis consists of five parts. The first part is introduction, which contains the research questions, significant of the study, definition of the concept, frame of the thesis and research methodology.The second part is the literature review on the effects of family factors on academic performance abroad and at home.The third part is research methodology and data analysis, describing the design of questionnaires, sample selection and basic structure, the implementation process of questionnaires and data analysis.The forth part is the results analysis towards the pupils’ academic performance status. The current educational status of migrant children are as follows: parents with lower educational level, improper method of education, less investment in education, the lack of family interaction, the weak of family cultural atmosphere. Even though parents’ expectations might be higher, they only concentrate on the results of learning but not the process.The fifth part makes a conclusion on the results and raises suggestions for future study.
