A Study On The Social Support System Of Urban Unemployed Family

In resent years, “loss of family”(which means elderly parents who have lost their only child) have became a more and more obvious social issue. In this article, we’ll discuss the social supporting system for these “loss of family” according to the social supporting theories and previous research results. We’ll study and analyze the social supporting system for these “loss of family” from both realistic and idealistic aspect. And then, we’ll probe into how can we improve our social supporting theories for those loss of family in our country.In this article, we’ll suggest and demonstrate the following points: First of all, the social support for the“loss of family”is essentially created to make up their lost child’s functions. The main five functions of social support including economy, pension, health care, emotion and society. The main goal of these social supports is to make sure these “loss of family”elders can enjoy security, dependence and happiness. And we should figure out that the four basic principles of establishing the social support for the“loss of family” are timeliness, legality, effectiveness and satisfaction. Secondly, the author visited Shanghai Xuhui Health Planning Commission, community family planning workers and interviewed some of the “loss of family”to find out some practical issues which exist in the “loss of family”. Such as poverty, lack of health care, continued influence of losing child, unstable family structure probably leading to a divorce and lack of social communication. On the other hand, the social supporting systems for the “loss of family” in Xuhui district mainly include: directly or indirectly economic support; health care support such as free housekeeping services and healthcare guiding project; Emotional support such as the aid fund project of the family planning association; community groups or organizations offer psychological care programs and twinning care programs. Last but not least, the social supporting systems of Shanghai Xuhui district for the “loss of family” exist several main problems such as value the government rather than the people, lack of policy legislation, training system and dynamic evaluation mechanisms which lead to the incomplete, immature, unreasonable and unscientific of our social supporting system for those “loss of family”. In conclusion, with regard to all these problems above, the author suggests that we should do the following four aspects to establish and complete the social supporting systems for the “loss of family” in our country. Including accelerate the implementation of related policies for the “loss of family” according to the principles of legality and with the basic principles of social support; we should fulfill the principle of effectiveness and improve our specialized services for the “loss of family”; also we should enhance the timeliness principle and complete the variety of our social supporting systems; carrying out the regulation and evaluation for our social supporting systems according to the principle of satisfaction as well.
