Liang Qichao is the famous master of Chinese culture. He dabbles extensively in the field of literary, history, Confucianism and so on. He is reputed to be the encyclopedic scholar. He also makes outstanding contributions to language education. It is worth mentioning to his composition teaching ideas, which is embodied in his book called<Above high school composition teaching>. His composition teaching ideas is the combination of traditional writing theory and the modern writing theory, which still has a positive guiding significance in today.This article will build on Liang Qichao’s composition teaching theoretical system based on the theoretical analysis and introductions to Liang’s composition teaching ideas. This article also wants to guide today’s composition teaching through the research on Liang’s composition teaching ideas.This paper is divided into four chapters:Chapter one describes the background of Liang’s composition teaching thinking and Liang’s core philosophy teaching writing. The background has four parts. First, age factors and social change; Second, Liang’s individual talent and ideas; Third, influence of traditional writing teaching experience; Last, the impact of modern Western educational thought. Section II describes the core concept of composition teaching ideas of Liang, which is "specification is more important than skill".Chapter two introduces some basic requirements of essay writing and a variety of articles’specifications. Liang wants the composition to be sincere, simple, informative, orderly, realistic and intelligible. In terms of composition writing methods, Liang especially describes the method of writing the narrative and argumentative text.Chapter three is the focus of this article. It mainly talks about the Liang’s composition teaching ideas which contain teaching materials, teaching content, teaching principles, teaching methods, teaching process. Teaching materials discusses the requirements of selected text and the type of language. Teaching content discusses the method of liberal arts and composition method. He thinks teaching principles should be gradual and individualized. Reading by groups and teaching with discussion is his main methods. Finally, his process has proposition, guides before writing, writing exercise and comments after writing.Chapter four refers to the significances, limitations and implications of Liang’s composition teaching ideas. This article discusses the significances from the historical significance and practical significance two aspects. His historical limitation is too much emphasis on rules, which could limit students’ creativity. He also underestimates the role of education when talking about rhetorical skills. But his ideas can also guide today’s composition teaching. For examples:Writing objectives should be based on "double base". Literary guide and creativity is also important to today’s composition teaching. Teachers should make efforts to improve their abilities.
