Generally speaking, the history of human education shows a long history of ’poetry instruction’, which is regarded as one of the best ways of moral education and language research. Though poetry teaching does not completely equal to traditional ’poetry instruction’, but they do have close relationship of heritage. Modern poetry education and teaching concentrates more on humane and aesthetic education than moral education, enabling students to appreciate the beauty of mother tongue in chanting and savoring.Since the 20th century, modern poetry has gradually replaced classic poetry, forming its own tradition of’poetry instruction’. Teaching of modern poetry synchronizes with the modernization of it. Chinese education provides system guarantee for reading, appreciating and broadcasting of modern poetry by advanced methods such as students’reading, teachers’explaining and examination. In some way, Chinese education plays an important role in realizing the classics of modern poetry. Therefore, we attach theoretical and practical significance to modern poetry teaching in Chinese education.This essay consists of 3 parts. In the first part, on the basis of defining modern poetry, the author clears the objective and definition of modern poetry teaching; In the second part, the researcher do surveys and visits about the topic’modern poetry and middle school Chinese education’. The survey is conducted from 3 aspects such as attitude of middle school students towards modern poetry, the current situation of modern poetry reading, factors that affect the availability of modern poetry for students. From the survey, the current situation of modern poetry teaching in Chinese class is clarified. Problems that occurred in process of modern poetry teaching are discovered. And the reasons for those are analyzed, such as the selection of teaching materials, reading ability of teachers and the examination policy etc. After integration and reconstruction of the teaching materials and accumulation of modern-poetry quality of teachers, the third part, on the basis of the problems discussed in the previous part, according to the expectation of students to the modern poetry reflected by the survey solve the problem about how to teach modern poetry by chanting, imaging and emotion-centered teaching method. This is conducted from 3 aspects such as:language of modern poetry, aesthetic object and lyrical way. It is illustrated that it’s too early to talk about teaching format of modern poetry in middle school. Teaching method which is testified by teaching practice is the premise of constructing the format in the future.
