The cultivation of historical consciousness in the history teaching has been the concern of many countries in the world. But in our high school history teaching, the cultivation of students’historical consciousness hasn’t been received sufficient attention for a long time. What is the historical consciousness? How do we cultivate the historical consciousness in the history teaching? What is the important meaning of cultivating the historical consciousness? Many history teachers don’t have clear concept and thinking.The historical consciousness emerged from the attention and thinking of the history. It is a huge and misty concept. Historians and history educator explain the concept constantly but there still hasn’t been and won’t be a unified and standard interpret. The historical consciousness becomes the focus of attention in the history teaching with history knowledge, capability, sentiment, attitude, and sense of worth. So we should define the category of the historical consciousness in the history teaching field of vision and probe into the problem of the cultivation of historical consciousness in the middle history teaching especially in the high school history teaching.Historical consciousness is not a single concept but a concept system with several concepts and complex structure. These branch concepts are independent and have overlapping categories. The consciousness of time, spatial consciousness, authenticity of the consciousness, evidence consciousness, process consciousness, consciousness of reflection, critique consciousness, dialectical consciousness and so on are all parts of the historical consciousness. In general the historical consciousness is the way of thinking and habits that formed in the study and thinking of history. This way of thinking with the history of perceptual experience and rational cognition, and the long accumulated gradually condensed, into the history and reality, people explore a vision of life and the world, a mind, a kind of tolerance, a spiritual concept and way of thinking, to overcome the specific time and space probe into life, society and the world, look at the past, present and future. Influence of cultivating the history sense is the lifelong development of students and not just in the development of history subject. The consciousness of time, spatial consciousness, the authenticity of the evidence awareness, consciousness, process consciousness, the consciousness of reflection in the basic position in the history of the structure of consciousness, but also meet the students thinking development level for key but this concern.Harmony in the history teaching process, relationship between teachers and students, effective teaching design is the key to cultivate the students’ consciousness of history. Form historical consciousness without the pattern and the method of fixed, need to find the best scheme according to different teaching subjects, teaching environment and teaching content.
