Chen Heqin, the famous children psychologist and educator in modern china, made pioneering contributions to the development of modern early childhood education, so he was honored as "the Father of Chinese preschool education" and "China’s Froebel". Since the 1920s until his death, he spent more than sixty years on children’s education research and practice. Chen succeed in applying children’s psychological research to children’s education and started the scientific study on children’s toys as well as opened toy factories by initiating and transforming all kinds of toys, teaching aids and equipment for Chinese children. Chen is "a pioneer of the children’s toys study ", therefore, his children’s toys thinking should be pay attention to.On the basis of document review, taking the development of Chen’s toy thought as the visible clue as well as taking the May 4th Movement, the New Culture Movement, major changes and adjustment in modern Chinese society as the invisible clue, this research attempts to represent historical background, practical experiences and influence of Chen’s toy thinking development by using literature research, interviews, objects analysis and other methods. According to that, this study analyze the enlightenment of his toys thinking on China’s current practice of toys.The study found that from the 1920’s to 1980’s, Chen heqin’s children toys thought gradually went through four stages:The stage of concerning children’s toys; The stage of premature thought; The stage of thought developing; The stage of thought enriching and improving.The Ecology of Human Development emphasizes that the environment of individual development is an ecosystem, especially interaction between individuals and the environment. Chen’s children toys thought changed step by step. It not only closely linked with his family, work and interpersonal social movements, but also with the specific political, economic and cultural background. His thought influenced by the ecological systems that he lived. Meanwhile, his ideas gradually changed the prevailing politics, economy, culture and education in that environment. It is through the "continuous" two-way "adaptation" that his thought of children toys formed eventually.The ideological of Chen’s children toys was conceived in the last century with special political, economic, ideological and cultural background. Although it has the era limitations, it does not mean that Chen’s children toys thinking is outdated. In fact, the researcher found that the problem faced by Chen at that time still exist, so his problem-solving strategies also have inspiration and modeling for today. Nearly a century from then, we still need to review Chen heqin’s children toys thought.
